Server

The hardware system requirements depend heavily on the system structure. For this purpose, OMN offers various, needs-based options for setting up system structure.

Unit Requirement Details

CPU

x86-compatible server processor with at least 2 GHz (with virtualization at least 2 virtual processors)

RAM

at least 8 GB of working memory per server (depending on the database, workflows and simultaneous users, the need may be higher). More details in the Recommended Dimensioning section

Hard disk space

> 80 GB

  • 20 GB of free hard disk space for the operating system

  • 10 GB free hard disk space for the installation of OMN (additional drive if possible)

  • 50 GB of free hard disk space for temporary files (additional drive if possible)

  • 5 to 10% of the data pool as free hard disk space for preview files for OMN (additional drive if possible) to 10% of the data pool as free hard disk space for preview files for OMN (additional drive if possible)

Internet Access

Internet access is required to use OMN.

Bandwidth:

Requirements depend on the used OMN software modules, online services, system landscape and amount of processed data. The need can be higher than recommended. The concrete requirement is specified in the customer project. Therefore the values given are only a general guideline.

  • min. 6 Mbps (Megabit per second)

  • recommended 16 Mbps

Access (Firewall)

By accessing OMN from the Internet one of the following systems is required:

  • Firewall with reverse proxy function

  • Firewall with Deep packet inspection (DPI)

    • Firewall release for port 8070 (optional port 8088 for video streaming)

  • Dedicated reverse proxy system

Operating System

Currently only Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (RHEL 9) RHEL (license not included in the product) is supported.

Even if OMN should work under Windows and Mac OSX. The use of an operating system other than RHEL (neither Fedora nor Centos or any other Linux distribution) or an RHEL version smaller 9 is not supported and is at your own risk.

Software

OMN requires the following software components in order to be installed and executed successfully.

  • LDAP server

  • Docker

  • Java 8

  • Database system - supported are:

    • PostgreSQL 15

    • Oracle 19c

    • MSSQL version 2016 or 2017

  • Samba server (SMB4)

  • A database backup solution must be available that enables consistent data backup and data recovery from (virtual) servers and Oracle or MS SQL databases

  • With virtualization, a professional and established virtualization solution is required as virtualization software (e.g. VMware or Hyper-V)

  • File server:

    • File server for the OMN data pools. The recommended release is NFS (v3 or v4) or CIFS.

    • If you want to work directly on the OMN data pools, HELIOS is required instead (not included in OMN)
